Dal Tadka,a North Indian dal recipe,is a Dhaba style favorite food of mine. Hot pulka and Dal Tadka goes best with hot pulkas, chapati, naan and jeera pulao. I served Dal Tadka with Palak Lachcha. Dal tadka recipe, a punjabi style of making the dal by pressure cooking the dal and adding the dal to the onion tomato tadka.

Steps to make Methi Dal tadka:
  1. First in a pressure cooker add soaked dal and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.let the pressure release by itself.
  2. In a pan heat oil, once oil heats add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and hing.let them crackle then add onion and saute for 2 -3 mins until it change it colour slightly.add ginger and saute for a min.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, green chillies and salt.cover it and cook for few mins.on low to medium heat until tomatoes gets soft.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder stir well.add chopped fenugreek leaves and saute well.cook for few mins.then add boiled dal and mix well.
  5. Add required water and cook for few more minutes.add garam masala powder and fresh coriander mix well and switch off the heat.
  6. Methi dal tadka is ready to serve.serve with roti or with rice.
